Admittedly, I've read very few of King's novels -- and this one is why. I liked the John Carpenter film "Christine" until I read the book... suddenly it seemed that the movie was utter shit. Since I'm an admirer of King's films, even some of the bad ones, I decided that I wasn't going to further taint the films I love by reading the original text. I broke that rule once a few years ago when I started the site and finally sat down and read "Carrie" in its entirety, but that's the only King book I've read in close to 20 years.
Of the King novels that I've read (I think I read all of his full novels until "Christine," with the exception of "The Stand"), this one's easily my favorite.

But for the Carpenter's movie, ou have to know that he had to destroy the character of the old Christine's owner because at that time An American Were-wolf in London (by John Landis) was just released and it had a similar character. So Carpenter cut it out for not been accused of plagiat. He regret today but hadn't the choice. Well, it isn't a movie that Carpenter loves anyway. He made it to work of something, he doesn't think the film is scarry (but King does).
